Abstract
Küçük çocukların ve annelerinin açık alan tercihlerinin araştırılması hem çocuklar hem de doğanın kendisi üzerinde doğrudan veya dolaylı olarak olumlu kazanımlara yol açmaktadır. Bu çalışma, okul öncesi dönemdeki 60 aylık çocukların ve annelerinin açık alan tercihlerini Türkiye bağlamında araştırmaktadır. Katılımcılar yarısı kız, yarısı erkek yirmi çocuktan ve bu çocukların annelerinden oluşmaktadır. Katılımcıların tercihleri, dört farklı açık alan ortamını temsil eden (orman, park, su, açık alan/çimenli alan) on altı fotoğraftan oluşan bir set eşliğinde açık alan tercihleri anketleri kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Sonuçlara göre, her iki grup katılımcının da en sık tercih ettiği alanlar su bulunan ortamlar ve parklar olarak belirlenirken, ormanlar en az tercih edilen açık alanlar olmuştur. Çocukların tercihleri, açık alanların sağladığı fırsatlar temel alınarak belirlenirken, anneler tercihlerinde estetik ve sakinleştirici yönleri vurgulamışlardır. Her iki grup da yapılandırılmamış oyun fırsatlarını açık alan tercihlerini etkileyen en önemli faktör olarak belirtmiştir. Ayrıca, her iki çocuklar ve anneler için orman alanlarını en az tercih edilen seçenek yapan temel faktör, bu tür ortamlardaki algılanan fiziksel tehlikelerden kaynaklanan güvenlik endişeleridir.

Abstract
Exploring young children’s and their mothers’ outdoor setting preferences leads directly or indirectly positive gains both on children and nature itself. This study explores 60 moth-old preschool children’s and their mothers’ outdoor setting preferences in Turkish context. The participants consist of twenty children, half of whom are girls and the other half are boys, along with their mothers. The research conducted was descriptive qualitative research. The participants’ preferences identified by using landscape preferences questionnaires accompanying with a set of sixteen photographs, which represent four different types of outdoor settings; in particular, forest, park, water, open field/grassy area. According to the results, both groups of the participants’ most preferred outdoor settings were water areas and parks, forests were the least favorite outdoor settings. Children's choices for their favorite settings were primarily based on the affordances provided by the outdoor settings, whereas mothers emphasized the aesthetic and calming aspects of the outdoor settings in their preferences. Both groups considered unstructured play opportunities as a most important factor affecting their outdoor setting preferences. Also, the primary factor influencing the choices of forest settings as the least preferred option for both children and mothers revolved around safety concerns, primarily stemming from perceived physical hazards in such environments.
